Welcome!

Welcome to a great year in ALERT! Use this page to navigate to your student's day of instruction and view activities, updates, and pictures. Below is a copy of the welcome letter. I look forward to learning with your student!

 Dear ALERT Parents,

Welcome to a new year of ALERT. I am looking forward to sharing an incredible curriculum with your child. Students will be learning about Systems: Investigating Interactions, our year-long concept. We will begin the year Investigating Crime Scenes by participating in hands-on forensic science lab experiments that will provide both background research and crime fighting challenges. We will also visit the Richland County Court House to follow the evidence and discover how evidence and forensics interact in both the crime scene and court systems. In our second unit of study, students will use CSI real-life investigations, to explore the environment as Environmental Detectives. Our work is enhanced and strengthened by Renzulli Learning System, an online program which tailors resources uniquely to your student. A gifted mathematical curriculum (M3-Mentoring Mathematical Minds) in research data complements our studies of systems as students begin Digging for Data: The Search in Research.

Communication is the key to a successful year. Each student has been given a take home folder as one way to keep information organized. Any notes, papers, and assignments will be placed in the folder. Please take the time to check your child’s ALERT folder each week and use it to send me any information. If you have any questions or concerns, please call or e-mail. E-mail is the best way to contact me at jhoft@richland2.org
